Vestry meeting of August 20, 2020

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Vestry Meeting Minutes
August 20, 2020

The Vestry meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m. by Fr. Tom, in Trinity Hall so as to Social Distance safely.

Members Present: Fr. Tom, Rector; Charlene Connolly, Senior Warden;  David Abernethy, Treasurer; Don Anderson, Junior Warden; Joyce Cashin, Judy Allen,  Lee Perry, Dick Emerson, and Yvon Hive. Van Geoghegan was  present via phone conference call.

Fr. Tom opened the meeting with a Prayer of Quarantine, followed with the Vestry reading Psalm 121 together.

Minutes: Dick moved that the July minutes be approved, and Don seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.

Financials:  The July financials were reviewed with the vestry by David Abernethy. The overall income was down, and the expenses were up. The pandemic is beginning to take a toll on the budget. A more accurate review could not be made because the Comptroller was having issues with reports made with the new financial/membership program, Realm, that was purchased for St. Paul’s.

Rectors Reports

1.      Senior Warden:
Fr. Tom wished Charlene much happiness and congratulated her on her upcoming retirement from Coastal Beverages.

2.      Wi-Fi in Church:
Fr. Tom reported he is obtaining bids from Parageeks on options of installing Wi-Fi in the church. One option is using a Wi-Fi extender off the current Wi-Fi in Trinity Hall. The other option is to put the current ethernet cable from Serson Hall to church underground. With the second option, two bids would be done. One with St. Paul’s doing the underground digging, the other with Parageeks doing the digging and installing.

3.      Planned Giving/Estate Planning
Fr. Tom received several resources to look over from the Episcopal Church Foundation. Fr. Tom has asked Jan Shea to help with this program, along with Richard Breithaupt and Lee Weiber.

4.      Convention/Convocation:
Fr. Tom would like the delegates for the Diocese of Southwest Florida to join him at St. Paul’s for the September 2 Convocation for a Zoom at 7:00 pm. The delegates are Charlene, Don, Van and the alternate is Lee.
The Bishop highly encourages this get together to better prepare for the virtual Convention in October.

5.      Respectfulness of Sanctuary in Church:

Charlene reported she had heard many comments on carelessness with what is done in the Sanctuary of the church, especially around the altar area. Fr. Tom will address this with groups renting the church for services.

6.      Farmers’ Market:
Dick presented to the Vestry what he and Peter Lund, manager of the market, have heard from the county on current markets. Dick passed out the latest CDC requirements. Fr. Tom suggested that he meet with Dick, and Peter Lund a week before the next Vestry meeting, which is on September 17 and make a proposal for the Vestry to review and decide. Included in the discussion that followed Dick’s presentation were, cost of CDC guidelines as far as hand sanitizer, enough volunteers, maybe postpone to after Christmas, who is essential, who is not essential and who will decide and let the Vendors know of the changes made.

7.      Property:
Junior Warden, Don, reported that all appears well with our campus as the summer season rapidly passes.
We are keeping a lookout for storms which might affect us.
Gary will be painting the wall outside the kitchen and the gift shop to spruce things up.  This area gets used by our “tenants”.

8.      ECW:

Tom gave Joyce permission to use her best judgement on when to begin the monthly meetings during season. The balance in the ECW account is $331.66. Note, on August 21, ECW President Joyce, decided the ECW group would not get together for meetings till January of 2021.
