Vestry Meeting Minutes

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Naples FL       December 15, 2016                                  

 

Members Present: Fr. Bill Faupel (Priest-in-Charge), Dick Breithaupt (Sr. Warden), Hal Brundage, Yvon Hive, Charlene Connolly, Alan Cragg, Van Geoghegan (Jr. Warden), Barbara Kling, Lynne LaMarca, Adrienne McGrain.

Members via phone: Don Anderson, Lee Perry.

Members Not Present: Bev Whiteman.

The Senior Warden called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. and Fr. Bill opened with prayer.

November minutes were unanimously approved with the direction to post them. Moved by Van/seconded by Hal. November financials were unanimously approved. Moved by Alan/seconded by Van.

Item of Personal Privilege.  Barbara Kling gave a personal profile. In January, Alan Cragg will give his profile.   These will be published in future issues of St. Paul’s Pathway under the headline: “Meet Your Vestry.”

New Business:

  1. Recommendation: Van moved and Barb seconded a motion to approve the increase of salary for our Administrative Assistant, by $13.38 per month, to cover the increase in her health insurance plan.  The motion was unanimously approved.
  2. Recommendation:  The Vestry resolved to have a Nominating Committee bring a slate of candidates to be approved for the Vestry to the January, 2017 meeting.
  3. Recommendation: Staff Christmas Bonus.  At the suggestion of the Senior Warden Alan moved and Van seconded to have Fr. Bill decide on a $1000.00 pot to be distributed among the St. Paul’s employees.  The recommendation was unanimously approved

 

Updates

 

  1. Farmers Market

At Don Anderson’s request, Alan Cragg reported the Farmers’ Market is very successful. However, we need more volunteers to help with parking.  He further reported that Jeff Page has done a wonderful job once again this year. He also reported that Jim Crosby has done a great job of parking the cars and lining up greeters with the volunteers. Everyone is enjoying the Gator’s Band that performs every other week.

 

 

 

  1. Communications

Barb Kling reported the Communications is busy with improving and working on communicating verbally, and through social media. She thanks Tom Connolly for the time and effort he gives to social media. Barbara also reported Barb Pike will do the sign on Davis Blvd.

.

 

  1. 2017 Budget Process

Hal reported that the budget is progressing and in the final stages.  

 

  1. 50th Anniversary

Dick announced that the Jubilee dinner will be $60 per person. Tickets will go on sale in February, 2017. There will be three menu choices; meat, gluten free, and vegetarian. More t-shirts have been ordered and should be here the beginning of January.

 

  1. Air Conditioner in Serson Hall

Fr. Bill reported that possible $26,000.00 new air conditioner was not needed and repairs were done for $1500.00

 

  1. Washing Machine in Rectory

Alan Cragg reported the wash machine was replaced with a slightly scratched, but new machine,

 

  1. Columbarium

Deferred till January.

 

  1. Service Schedule Change

Fr. Bill reported January 8, 2017, a service schedule change will be made. Services on Sunday will be 7:45 and 10:00 a.m. The content of the 7:45 service will remain unchanged from the present 8:00 a.m. service.  The content of the 10:00 a.m. service will alternate between the content of the present 9:15 a.m. and 10:45, a.m. services.  He will establish a Worship Team consisting of an equal number of parishioners who attend the present 9:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services to develop the new service format which will be implanted on the first Sunday in May, 2017.

 

The purpose for the change of services is to allow St. Paul’s to have a focused time for Adult Christian Formation and have a full congregation at the principal service which will create more energy which in turn will encourage visitors to make St. Paul’s their home church while in Naples.   The Vestry fully endorsed this new change to St. Paul’s Worship Schedule.

 

  1. ECW Funds

Barbara reported the new Treasure for ECW, Carolyn Hale is working hard in the transition with our accountant Janet and it is going well. Fr. Bill thanked the ECW officers for working smoothly with the new procedures with ECW funds and accounting. Fr. Bill also thanked the ECW for doing so much for the members and St. Paul’s over the years.

 

  1. Nomination Committee

Fr. Bill reported he has named Barbara Kling to serve as the Nominating Committee Chair. Others serving on the committee are Van Geoghegan, Hal Brundage, Alan Cragg and Fr. Bill.  They will report a slate of nominations for the Vestry to approve at the January meeting.

 

 

  1. Christmas Pageant

Charlene reported that all the participants are ready for December 18 Christmas Pageant.

Fr. Bill thanked the Vestry and St. Paul’s for making Sunday, December 11, with the Bishop here, a big success.

 

The date of the January Vestry Meeting is set for Thursday, January 19, at 6:30 p.m.
