Vestry Meeting Minutes

August 23, 2018

 

The Vestry meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Richard Breithaupt. Fr. Bill opened with prayer.

 

Members Present: Richard Breithaupt, Senior Warden; Don Anderson, Junior Warden; Dave Abernethy, Treasurer; Fr. Bill, Priest-in-Charge, Charlene Connolly, and Judy Allen. Attending via phone were Lee Perry and Dick Emerson.  Absent were Peter Lund, Alan Cragg, Bev Whitman, Darlene Shoemaker, and Yvon Hive.

 

Minutes: Don moved that the June minutes be approved as distributed with the understanding that he could speak to the motion.  Judy seconded the motion.   In the discussion which followed, Don moved that the last sentence in the outreach report with the understanding that amount to be distributed next year from this year’s income will be governed by the total income for the year be deleted.  The motion as amended was unanimously approved.

Financials:  David moved, and Don seconded a motion that the June & July financials be approved as distributed. The motion was unanimously approved.

 

New Business

 

  1. Search Committee:

Don moved and  seconded by consensus a motion that the Vestry recognize the very diligent efforts of the Search Committee in bringing to the Vestry three highly qualified candidates for the Rector Elect of St. Paul’s in a timely manner and at a minimum cost. Members of the Search Committee include: Chairperson Richard Breithaupt, Vice Chairperson Linda Connelly, Dave Abernethy, Don Anderson,, Tom Connolly, Connie Cunningham, and Ginny Harper.

 

  1. Senior Warden:

Don moved and  seconded by consensus a motion that the Vestry recognize outstanding leadership of Senior Warden Richard Breithaupt, Chairman of the Search Committee and Vestry provided in bringing in a timely manner three highly qualified candidates for Rector Elect of St. Paul’s.

 

Reports

 

  1. Treasurer Report:

David Abernethy reviewed the financial reports for June and July. Pledges are down 17% from 2017. Expenses are exceeding income.

 

  1. Audit Report:

Dick reported Audit was sent to the diocese in a timely manner and St. Paul’s was thanked for their thoroughness, timeliness and excellent recommendations.

 

  1. Property:

Lee reported he is finalizing bids on St. Paul’s insurance policies and will report in September.

 

 

 

 

  1. Prayer for the Rector Elect:

 

Father Bill reported that now that a Rector-Elect has been named, the following prayer will said as part of the Sunday Liturgy until his arrival

                                                                                             

Almighty God, we give thanks that You have guided the minds of those who have

chosen a Rector for this parish. We pray that Fr. Tom will be a faithful pastor,

who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus

Christ our Lord. Amen

 

  1. Special Edition of St. Paul’s Pathway featuring the Rector Elect:

Fr. Bill reported that Tom Connelly will be putting together a special edition about the Rector Elect and information on his installation and Fr. Bill’s goodbye luncheon.

 

  1. Upcoming Events:

Fr. Bill reported the Convocation is September 4 at 7 pm at St. Mary’s.

The Ecumenical Concert will be held August 25 at 4 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

 

  1.  Fr. Bill:

Richard reported Fr. Bill’s last Sunday at St. Paul’s will be October 28. On that Sunday there will be a farewell party in Trinity Hall. Fr. Bill is taking vacation from September 28- October 8.

 

  1. Installation of Rector Elect:

Richard reported we are working with the diocese on details and coordinating with the Bishop on a date.

 

  1. Sunday Service:

Two services will begin again on October 7, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.   On October 28 the 8 a.m. service will be canceled so all can attend Fr. Bill’s farewell party which will follow the 10 a.m. service..

 

Discussion Items

 

  1. Rectory: David and Richard met with Fr. Panel the week of August 13 to discuss moving out of the rectory in order for the new rector elect to move in. Discussion on returning the security deposit to Fr. Panel, and how to handle moving expenses followed.

 

  1. Stewardship: August 25, Richard and Don will attend the Dayspring Stewardship Workshop. They are hoping to come back to St. Paul’s and promote stewardship. Richard encouraged everyone to think of members to put on Bev’s stewardship team to help with the ministry.

 

The next scheduled Vestry meeting is Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

 

Don moved, and Judy seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 pm. The motion was unanimously approved.
