Vestry Meeting Minutes

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

                                                                                           Naples FL       November 16, 2016                                  

 

Members Present: Fr. Bill Faupel (Priest-in-Charge), Dick Breithaupt (Sr. Warden), Hal Brundage, Yvon Hive, Charlene Connolly, Alan Cragg, Van Geoghegan (Jr. Warden), Barbara Kling, Lynne LaMarca.

Members Not Present: Don Anderson, Lee Perry, Bev Whiteman, Adrienne McGrain.

The Senior Warden called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. and opened with prayer.

October minutes were unanimously approved with the direction to post them. Moved by Van/seconded by Alan. October financials were unanimously approved. Moved by Alan/seconded by Barb. (The financials appear in the official copy of these minutes as Appendix A).

Item of Personal Privilege.  Hal Brundage gave a personal profile. In December, Barb will give her profile.   These will be published in St. Paul’s Pathway under the headline: “Meet Your Vestry.”

  1. needed to hear the presentation, the motion was unanimously approved.

New Business:

  1. Recommendation: Barb moved and Van seconded a motion to accept the appointment of Dave Abernethy as Treasurer effective with the 2017 annual meeting. The motion was unanimously approved.
  2. Recommendation:  Van moved and Alan seconded a motion to approve a 3% raise for the 2017 calendar year for staff members, Deb Avery, Janet Ross, Eleanor Phelps, Dan Dickout and Sendy Bernard. The motion was unanimously approved.
  3. Recommendation: Hal moved and Van seconded a motion to designate $36,500 of Fr. Bill’s salary to housing allowance. The motion was unanimously approved.
  4. Recommendation:  Barb moved and Van seconded a motion to approve St. Paul’s to pay Fr. Bill’s secondary Blue Cross Blue Shield premium @ $522.00 a month and add $176.00 a month to his salary to pay for his Medicare part B, his primary care policy for a total of $698.00 monthly premium. The motion was unanimously approved.
  5. Recommendation:  There is full support from the Vestry to give monies to be decided at a later date, from Outreach, SOSP, and the discretionary fund of the Priest-in-Charge, to support Fr. Panel’s request to assist the Church of the Holy Cross, which he worked with in Haiti, that has been devastated by Hurricane Matthew.

 

 

 

Updates

 

  1. Birthday Club

SOSP will adopt the “birthday club” idea, with the monies to go into the endowment fund to begin the first of the year. Van suggested to announce in the December Pathways and in the Weekly Update to inform St. Paul’s this will take effect in January.

 

  1. Farmers’ Market

All involved with the Farmers’ Market on opening day said it went very well. Many thanks to Jeff Page and all the volunteers who made this possible.

 

  1. Stewardship Campaign

No report.

 

  1. 2017 Budget Process

Hal reported that many of the budget reports he requested from the Vestry have not been turned in at this time. He did thank those that did turn theirs in.

 

  1. 50th Anniversary

Dick announced that the dinner venue for the Anniversary banquet would be Trinity by the Cove. December 4, Dick will present the year of the jubilee to St. Paul’s at all three services. At this time 50th Jubilee t-shirts will be handed out to everyone with the intentions of wearing them to promote our enthusiasm for our jubilee. The Bishop will be coming to St. Paul’s December 11.

 

 

  1. Schedule for work-shop with Michael Basden

Michael Basden will have the retreat for the Vestry at St. Paul’s on January 13 at 6:00 p.m., with dinner, in Trinity Hall and the afternoon of Sunday the 15th in Trinity Hall.

 

  1. Columbarium

Fr. Bill reported he met with Dave Abernathy and the Columbarium company. They are still working on an area where this project will work out at St. Paul’s.

 

  1. Space Use Contracts

The Vestry would like to see the space use contracts updated and possibly raise the rent/donation fees for the organizations.

 

  1. Narthex Chairs

Alan purchased 6 chairs for the Narthex from Habitat for Humanity. 6 for $175 to replace the worn ones.

 

  1. Pro Audio

Fr. Bill reported we are having issues with the sound system, but a fix is made and will work till April when the changes will be made after season.

 

Note: ECW would like help on how to run the sound system in Trinity Hall.

 

Note: Opening day of Farmers’ Market in 2017 ask that the Friday Space Use groups either not meet or meet in Serson Hall or the Narthex.

 

The date of the December Vestry Meeting is set for Thursday, December 15, at 6:30 p.m.
